Voting Starts For FIFA FIFPro World 11

Footballers across the globe have started voting for the FIFA FIFPro World 11, with more than sixty thousand ballot forms sent to 76 countries.

The worldwide poll, which previously covered club and international performances over a calendar year, has changed format to align with the majority of competitions which run from August to June. Players will select their best eleven based on the 2016/2017 season, up to and including the FIFA Confederations Cup, which concluded last Sunday (July 2) with Germany’s 1-0 victory over Chile in the final.

The FIFA FIFPro World 11, set to be announced at ‘The Best’ FIFA Football Awards in London on October 23, will consist of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards. This is the 13th edition of the World 11. The award was established by FIFPro, the World Players’ Union, in 2005, and later merged with FIFA in 2009.

“We’re pleased to cooperate with FIFA once again to deliver the world’s most prestigious team award,” said FIFPro General-Secretary Theo van Seggelen. “The players decide, and that is the key, as they bring unique insight, knowing first hand what it takes to reach the top.”
