Steven Gerrard Collects Legends of Football Award

Steven Gerrard collected the Legends of Football award on Monday as a number of his former team-mates turned out to honour the Liverpool icon. Gerrard was recognised for his services to football at the event - which is sponsored by music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins. Former recipients of the Legends of Football award include ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, Pele and David Beckham.

The former Reds midfielder was presented with a special award on stage at the charity dinner as the likes of Jamie Carragher and Xabi Alonso watched on. "I've lived the dream," Gerrard said. "My dream was to play for Liverpool and be the captain. It's based around me tonight, which I'm very humbled and appreciative of, but the charity are the main winners. The most important thing is the amazing charity, being here to support Nordoff Robbins – an excellent charity which uses music to bring people together".

Alonso and Carragher delivered a speech honouring Gerrard at Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair, while Gerard Houllier, Phil Thompson, Roy Hodgson and Sami Hyypia were also among those present.
