Mexico 2018 Homeless World Cup

Mexico 2018 Homeless World Cup

The 16th edition of the Homeless World Cup will take place in Mexico City’s iconic Zocalo, right at the heart of the Mexican capital.

More than 450 players representing 42 countries will travel to Mexico City to attend the inspiring week-long festival of football, in what is promised to be one of the most spectacular Homeless World Cup tournaments yet.

The WM is supported by the world organization FIFPro.

Surprise, the organisation for socially disadvantaged people in Switzerland, has once again sent a national team to the special World Cup this year. The team consists of eight players from different street football league teams.

The team visited SAFP shortly before departing for Mexico City. As was the case last year, every player received a G-Form shin pad from SAFP.

The inspirational tournament will return to the venue of the sucessful 2012 event, the iconic Zocalo, right in the heart of Mexico City.  This year’s tournament will run from the 13-18 November with an expected 200,000 spectators and millions more watching the event online. More than 360 fast paced games will take place across three purpose-built pitches.

“We are thrilled to announce Mexico City as the host for the 2018 Homeless World Cup, and delighted to be partnering with Fundación Telmex once again” said Mel Young, co-founder of the Homeless World Cup Foundation. “We believe Mexico 2018 will be a world-class, life-changing event that both our participants and spectators will remember forever.”
